The Sauk Prairie School District is committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment for students, staff members, and visitors. The district has adopted the School Emergency Operations and Crisis Response Plan developed by the Sauk County Emergency Management, Buildings and Safety Department. This plan is the foundation that guides the training opportunities, planning and implementation of safety programs in our district to insure that all staff members are prepared to create and maintain a safe environment for all.
All district staff members have received mandatory training on school security and crisis preparedness issues. Administrators and those with a key role in the safety of each building have completed Incident Command Training through the Sauk County Emergency Management, Buildings and Safety Department. Select individuals have participated in more specialized training in CPR and the use of AED to assist individuals in crisis when needed. All staff have participated in specialized training (ALICE training, basic emergency medical training provided by the Sauk Prairie Ambulance Association) and have participated in several extensive emergency simulations and tabletop exercises led by local and county law enforcement and other emergency responders to further develop and test these skills. Additionally, students and district staff members participate in monthly safety drills. These exercises help us to assess the preparedness of our staffs and buildings to respond to potential emergencies.
The Sauk Prairie School District works collaboratively with community agencies so that we are well prepared to work together in the event of an emergency situation. Members of the school district and community collaborate on a District Safety Committee throughput the school year. Other county and state agencies join us to offer information, training and guidance as needed. The committee meets monthly to review and update existing plans and practices.
The district also works closely with our families to insure the safety of students in our schools. All visitors to a school in our district must sign in at the office and receive a visitor’s pass to be in the building. Additionally, individuals who wish to volunteer in the Sauk Prairie School District must complete a background check unless choosing to remain in the direct and constant supervision of a district staff member.
The Sauk Prairie School District is committed to supporting safety in all aspects of the educational environment and will continue to collaborate with our families as well as local, state and national resources to accomplish that goal.
