Cross Country:
Competed at the DeForest invite this past Wednesday. Here are the highlights:
Senior Jacob Wiegmann paced the Eagles with a determined run, breaking into the top 10 with another lifetime best time of 17:36.70. Wiegmannās consistency and experience have made him a reliable frontrunner for Sauk Prairie, and his result set the tone for the rest of the squad. Right behind him was fellow senior Austin Smith, who crossed in 18:15.40 for 12th place. Smith continues to provide steady scoring for the Eagles, building off his strong senior campaign. Perhaps the biggest highlight of the day came from freshman Joshua Gregg, who clocked a personal-best 18:46.60 to place 25th overall. Greggās breakthrough gives Sauk Prairie another scoring option, a key factor as the season progresses. The Eagles also leaned on their depth, with seniors Hunter Brensike (18:56.40, 28th) and Carson Tucker (18:58.20, 29th, PR) finishing shoulder to shoulder. Senior Austin Pontel added another scoring punch in 37th with a 19:32.50 effort. Beyond the top group, Sauk Prairieās depth continued to shine. Juniors Aaron Clement (20:21.40, 48th) and Drake Brensike (20:32.80, 52nd) ran solidly in the middle of the pack, while senior Alex Sibila-Ott (21:11.70, 66th) and junior Logan Sorg (21:37.60, 74th) chipped in key finishes. Several other Eagles gained valuable varsity-level experience, including seniors Micah Boerger (22:19.20), junior Caleb Gregg (22:25.70), and sophomore Tim Krasovec (23:26.80). Freshman Clay Hutchins also turned heads with a personal-record 22:52.00, showing promise for the future. Rounding out the Eagle squad was freshman Nolan Carncross (23:46.60) .
On the girls side of the race, Junior Aaliyah Bermudo led the Eagles with a strong ninth-place finish in 21:07.20, holding her own against some of the stateās top runners. Right on her heels was senior Clarissa Brickl, who crossed just three seconds later in 21:10.60 for 10th. From there, the Eaglesā pack running strategy was on full display. Junior Savannah Liegel surged to 16th in 21:41.40, while junior Evelyn Bahe secured 22nd with a 22:21.30 effort. Senior Kylie Hutchins rounded out the scoring five with a 33rd-place finish in 23:19.00. Sophomore Maya Dischler added depth in 38th (23:31.40), followed by sophomore Kjersten Hagen, who clocked a personal-best 23:45.20 for 40th. Sophomore Naomi Bermudo (42nd, 23:52.10 PR) and junior Sophia Hanson (46th, 23:59.60) also ran well, keeping Sauk Prairie competitive in the large field.
Medalists: Jacob Wiegmann (6th, Senior); Joshua Gregg (3rd, Freshman); Clarissa Brickl (4th, Senior); Aaliyah Bermudo (4th, Junior); Maya Dischler (6th, Sophomore)
The Eagles will look to build on their momentum next week as they head into River Valleyās Blackhawk Invitational. (See attached photo of medalists.)
